Benzyl benzoate is a colorless or light yellow viscous transparent liquid under standard conditions. When stored below 17 °C for a long time, it becomes a white solid. High purity benzyl benzoate has a weak floral fragrance. Its freezing point is ≥ 17 °C, and in winter, it condenses into solids. To use it, the benzyl benzoate packaging can be heated in an oven (temperature 35-70 °C) or warm water (temperature 40-90 °C) water bath until it melts.
The boiling point of benzyl benzoate is 323°C. It is a non-volatile organic solvent due to its high boiling point and is flammable but non-flammable. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. It is a good high-temperature solvent and the only solvent for musk. Its non-volatile nature, good solvent performance, and relatively stable ester characteristics make it suitable for applications in pharmaceuticals and spices.

Its solvent properties enable easy dissolution and even dispersion of dyes, resulting in uniform dyeing.
